"The plot of an Alafair Burke thriller doesn't just rip from the headlines. She's one step ahead of them. 212 scares you and keeps you turning the pages into the wee hours."

Introducing Ellie Hatcher and Mickey Haller

Monday, June 29, 2009

Nope, no collaboration between me and Michael Connelly (shoot!). But I did have to share this photograph of new kittens Ellie Hatcher Spitzer (calico) and Mickey Haller Spitzer (orange tabby). They belong to my and Michael Connelly's mutual agent and his family (whose previous cats were Dave and Samantha).

I'll confess that every time I look at Ellie and Mickey together, I'll be fantasizing about a book in which their fictional namesakes meet.

I just love those little faces...which will probably get them out of lots and lots of trouble before they're even one year old! :)

Our PM-in-waiting and leader of opposition makes up with his wife a Dave & Samantha team.

A dear friend of my family, an academic in her 70s, has a frequent feline visitor - of whom she has said - "He's called Dave. Unusual for a cat, but with politics being the way they are, who knows..."

Yes, Dave is an unusual name for a cat, but also nice to know he's not the first. Dave-in-Surrey has managed the old "me first" and "I need to be fed now; it's my right" scenario.

It doesn't matter what you name them; cats enter human lives and poach or successfully demand. This Brit-Surrey Dave achieves all counts and I'm sure your stateside feline did too.

All hail all the Daves and all the felines who follow in his (or her) footsteps. (Come on: we have to allow for not getting the sex right on time. May the Sams be Daves on times and the Daves, Sams.)

But in a loving home in arms of loving humans, sex matters less. Until it becomes the potential for kittens...

But all of us, please love our darling moggies. They have so much in return.
